Dan Griffey

"Due to a technical error Candidate Griffey was unaware of the questions posed in Mason County Journal's Voter's Guide. Dan is taking the opportunity this week to respond to them and he appreciates your patience for the delay."

What do you think is the most important issue in this primary election?
The single most important issue in this primary election is jobs. How do we create them but more importantly how do we keep them. We need to grow businesses. We have some of the best Real Estate in the State or the Nation for that matter. The cost of operating a Business here is low but the tax burdens and red tape the Government imposes on our businesses is far too high. If we want more jobs we have to Welcome those offering them.
What experience do you have that makes you uniquely qualified to serve as State Representative position No. 1 for Legislative District 35?
First and foremost I am a citizen and a concerned tax payer. With parliamentarian and leadership experience going back 20 years. Our founders had citizens in mind when they formed this Republican government, not disconnected politicians. Have you ever sent a letter or made a phone call to one of our representatives of the 35th, only to get a form letter in return? If you are very lucky it may even address your original question or comment. Our disconnected politicians put themselves out of reach, above the people they are meant to serve. It is this loss of contact with the people that has led to the out of control spending and back-room deals. Sure, they will sound good when it comes time for re-election, with speeches written by high priced consultants who determine just the right words to use. Then these disconnected representatives get to Olympia, and forget who they are supposed to represent. If I am fortunate enough to get the votes necessary to win, I will NOT forget who sent me there to fight for them.
What do you plan to do in Olympia to lower the unemployment rate in Mason County?
We can attract jobs through Free Market Principals.
We can introduce policies instead of endless studies, so those new business coming here can get up and running.
We can keep jobs here for those who LIVE in Mason County and the 35th Legislative District by educating and preparing our youth to be ready to enter the work force. We can do this through vocational skill centers and programs such as running start. We need to end Social Promotion and make certain that our students have the skills they need to move ahead.
Mason County's future as well as the entire 35 Legislative District's is bright, if we play our cards right.

Making A Run - Article in the Shelton Journal February 18th, 2010
Dan GriffeyAllyn resident Dan Griffey has filed paperwork with the state's public disclosure commission, kicking off a campaign run against State Representative Kathy Haigh.
Griffey is running as a Republican against Haigh, a democrat from Shelton. Haigh who owns veterinary clinic in Shelton, was first elected in 1998 and is currently in her sixth term. Haigh is the chair of the Education Appropriations Committee. She also serves on the appropriations and ways and means committees.
Griffey a lifelong Mason County resident, works as a firefighter. Griffey says he has a passion for History and has extensively studied the Constitution and the Washington State Legislature, and has read countless volumes of historical writings. He said he has a particular fondness for the life histories of the Founding Fathers, which inspired him to run for office.
"Our Founders had citizens in mind when they formed this Republican Government, not career politicians," reads a statement on his website. " Have you ever sent a letter or made a phone call to one of our so called representatives, only to get a form letter in return? If you are lucky it may even address your original question or comment. Career politicians put themselves out of reach, above the people they are meant to serve. It is this loss of contact with the people that has lead to the out of control spending and back room deals."
Griffey also believes in limited government.
"By increasing government size and bureaucracy, the burden imposed on the economy is staggering," he said. "Government regulations, mandates, fines, and fees imposed on businesses drive them out of this state and undermine the general welfare of the public. We can turn this around and fix this, but we must cut back the size and scope of our state government. Increased freedom and free-market principals, innovation and businesses will return and with those businesses come JOBS!"
